Your Taurus New Moon Reading for May 2026 ⋆.˚ ☾⭒.
The cards I pulled for us, for May’s New Moon in Taurus - Queen of Swords, The Star & Justice
So, it’s time to look ahead to summer, but we still have one foot in spring and yesterday I was caught in a hail storm! So let’s not pretend that seasonal living is predictable these days 🌼☔ Here’s a reading to help us all weather the next cycle…
New moons are a time when the sky literally goes dark and the moon becomes invisible for a night or two. They provide a natural moment for introspection, and are widely used for setting intentions for a new cycle.
Taurus is a sign which relates to our values, sense of security (material and emotional) and our experience of being grounded in our bodies.
The astrology is more complicated than that this month, but let’s keep it simple: in combination, the new moon and the sign of Taurus come together to create an optimal time to decide what is worth our energy and investment during the next cycle.
I asked the cards how we can all harness the energy of Saturday’s New Moon in Taurus for our best and highest goals (which can be any size - Taurus loves a bit of practicality and realism). Here’s what came up (the cards are pictured above):
What are we letting go? - Queen of Swords
The Queen stands warrior-like in her power, brandishing her spear, holding her boundaries cleanly and dishing out decisions without hesitation. Her mental accuity and clarity are unrivalled, she is adept at carefully discerning and parsing out what is right for her and what needs kicking to the curb. In short, she is a warrior and an all-round total bad-ass.
So why might we want to let go of that energy, this cycle? Well, maybe April was filled with decisions asking for our attention. Perhaps we’ve had more than our fair share of opportunities to pick and choose, to give the final say, to articulate our needs, to the point where it’s actually become a bit taxing to imagine any more of the same. It’s great to practise saying no, holding our boundaries and shedding people-pleasing tendencies, but it’s also very tiring, no? Pat yourself on the back with how far you’ve come, and be grateful for this invitation to put down your sword for a bit.
What new seeds are we planting? - The Star
Hooray! This gorgeous card is here to give us permission to fill our own cups. What lights you up? What simple pleasures make your days feel abundant? How would you spend your time, if no-one told you you couldn’t? Now’s the time to give yourself even 5% (more if possible) of that dream scenario of delights. No-one can keep going on full charge forever. There’s a limit to what we can manage, and to how much the capitalist machine can expect from us. Start thinking about how to claw some of your precious energy back. Even if finances are tight, there is always some small pleasure to be found. A beautiful flower, a funky cloud shape, an excellent cup of tea. Drink it all in!
The Star is perfect for this new moon, as it reminds us of what we value and reconnects us to the reasons we put all the work in, in the first place. The world is full of challenges (especially in 2026), and this card doesn’t ask you to spiritually bypass or ignore them - only to keep the balance, be curious about what optimism you do have access to, and remember that human life is about more than the grind and the worst that can happen. Over the coming weeks, where and when can you make time for a little joy & hope? Time to get into a new relationship with re-charging your batteries. It’s much easier to help others when your own reserves have been replenished.
Where to focus our energy/make our commitments? - Justice
I found this one really interesting… Justice is a card about balance. About even-handedly assessing the rights and wrongs of a situation, and challenging unfairness. About checking in with our values system - again, very Taurus - and trusting ourselves to act in alignment with our moral compass. Just as the Egyptians believed the god Anubis would weigh their hearts against a feather (which represented Ma’at, the universal energy) in the afterlife, to decide their fate, we must weigh up our responses and act from a place of integrity.
It makes me think about finding the balance between Queen of Swords and The Star - about what’s fair in terms of our giving and taking. Isn’t it only the minimum of justice that we should be allowed to enjoy our time, as well as toiling? Isn’t our mental clarity at its best when our body and happiness levels are cared for? When we don’t give ourselves what we need, we can end up feeling resentful - literally “it’s not fair!” - wondering what the people around us or the universe itself has against us. But actually we might be the ones with the power to right the scales. What if, each time we flex our Queen of Swords skills out in the world, we deserve to enjoy a bit of ‘me’ time with The Star afterwards to keep us on an even keel? Take some time to notice how the scales of Justice tip for you this month, and see if it’s possible to move closer to equilibrium.
