How often should I get a reading (and why)? 🌓

Happy February lovelies! This is a big week which has brought us a New Moon Solar Eclipse, the start of the Year of the Fire Horse and today’s Saturn-Neptune conjunction… during a month when a few of us might feel a gentle pull to get back out into the world after (hopefully) some winter hibernation and downtime.

Many questions may be coming up for you around this time, e.g. “Winter coat or spring jacket?”, “Umbrella or diving suit?”… but arguably the most important of these has got to be:

“When should I book in my next Tarot reading?”

There are lots of ideas out there about how often you should get a professional reading. The usual ethical response (and also my opinion) is around once every couple of months. But why?

Well, the answer comes down to what you are using Tarot for. I personally read for myself wayyyy more than once every 2 months (more like once a week on average, sometimes more and sometimes less). I might pull a card or two to help make a quick decision, or to find a perspective I might not have thought of. Or I’ll pull a whole spread for some deeper insight when moving through a challenging time. When I was learning Tarot, I pulled a card each morning and made notes in the evening.

So it’s not that Tarot can’t be valuable on a daily basis - it definitely can!

However, investing in a professional reading is a bit different. Often (though admittedly not always by any means), when you book and pay for a reading it’s because there’s something big on your mind. And any time we’re feeling stuck or unclear, we’re at a heightened risk of throwing money at the issue to try and feel better. So, some reasons why ethical Tarot readers will usually suggest a break between readings are as follows:

  1. It can be tempting to keep going back and relying on a reader to ‘tell you what to do’ (although my readings will never actually do this!), leading you to mistrust, override or dismiss your own inner guidance.

  2. Some people find themselves asking the same question a number of times, hoping for a different result (and getting frustrated either because they receive seemingly conflicting information or because the answer remains the same), rather than trusting and waiting to see how things unfold.

  3. If you’re already overwhelmed and overloaded with information (as so many of us are, in 2026), then it can just generally be confusing and disorienting to invite in too many outside perspectives, too often.

…so it’s important that readers don’t take advantage of their clients by eagerly agreeing to infinite repeated readings on similar topics, which may confuse rather than clarify.

For the record, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with getting a shorter ‘taster’ reading about distinct specific questions as often as you like. I’ve also had people book in with me for 20 or 40 mins at a festival, and then again at another event a couple of weeks later, and report having a great experience.

But if you spend an hour or more with me for a ‘full works’ reading, then I’d say 2 months is a good amount of time to let things settle and percolate before coming back for another in-depth session. That allows time for the insights to really land, and for your situation to have evolved enough to fully benefit from a whole new spread and the medicine it brings.

So where does all this leave you?? Are you due to get booked in for your next reading? If so, get to it and drop me a line ASAP (but sorry, Tarot can’t tell you whether to go for the coat or the jacket today 😜)

Much love 💗💗💗
